Project Overview
Dashboard and NewTown Macon invites artists to submit proposals for a public artwork installation that celebrates Macon’s rich musical history and fosters community connection through innovative artistic expression. The selected artwork will be a key feature of Macon’s Cherry Blossom Festival, providing an engaging and immersive experience for visitors and residents alike.
Scope of Work
Dashboard and NewTown Macon seek proposals for a dynamic, non-mural public art installation that draws inspiration from Macon’s musical legacy. Artists are encouraged to explore the use of sound, light, sculptural, and three-dimensional elements to create an interactive or experiential piece that honors the city’s storied contributions to music while resonating with contemporary audiences. Proposals should avoid traditional mural or portraiture approaches.
Activation Locations
Three locations have been identified as potential activation sites:
Option 1: The Arch
Option 2: The Canopy
Option 3: The Poplar Median
Applicants may submit proposals for one or two of the identified sites for consideration.
Eligibility
This opportunity is open to professional artists and artist teams with demonstrated experience in creating public art. Applicants should have a strong portfolio of work that aligns with the thematic and material requirements of this project.
Submission Guidelines
Artists should submit the following materials:
Project Proposal: A written description (up to 500 words) detailing the concept, materials, and anticipated impact of the artwork.
Preliminary Design: Visual renderings, sketches, or models illustrating the proposed installation.
Artist Statement: A brief statement (up to 250 words) about your artistic approach and how it aligns with the project’s theme.
Resume/CV: A document highlighting relevant experience, including previous public art projects.
Work Samples: Up to five images or videos of past projects.
Budget: A preliminary budget outlining project costs, including materials, labor, and installation.
Selection Criteria
Proposals will be evaluated based on the following:
Artistic Quality: Originality, creativity, and relevance to Macon’s musical heritage.
Community Engagement: Potential to inspire and engage the public.
Feasibility: Practicality of execution within the budget and timeline.
Durability: Use of materials suitable for outdoor display and varied weather conditions.
Timeline
Submission Deadline: Tuesday, January 21, 2025
Artist Selection: Friday, January 31, 2025
Installation Completion: Wednesday March 19, 2025

A total budget of $25,000 is available for this project, covering all artist fees, materials, and installation costs. Here is a budget breakdown.
